The Key to Success? Grit

This post’s title belongs to a TED lecture given by Angela Lee Duckworth bearing the same name:

I bet most of you are not really surprised by this title. Any self aware individual knows that without EQ skills no real achievements can be gained and defiantly can not be sustained.
Determination is one of these EQ – life skills abilities which are crucial to our success as Angela Lee claims in her lecture.

The more important and by far more challenging question is how do we teach the life skill of determination to our kids?

I think the word ‘success’ needs clarification. Success can easily be associated with money, reputation and any other materialistic thing. Not that it’s necessarily not so, it’s just that all of the materialistic things are the results of success and not necessarily indicators of it.

Success is an inner state of mind – an alignment between one’s state of mind and one’s self perceived reality. it’s an inner flow that, based on the desires and choices of the individual, will take her to achieving her goals – to be successful. The indicators of such inner flow are what the eye can see and mistakenly see as success when, as said before, they are the projection of inner success onto the utter world.
